Skelsmergh Tarn, just off the Shap Road on the outskirts of Kendal is an established fishery holding good stocks of large Tench to 9lb Perch to 4lb and Rudd. In the summer months lily pads thrive and strong tackle may be required. The tarn is registered as a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) and is not suitable for stocking of other species. New platforms and a walkway have been constructed in April 2011 with help from English Nature making this a vastly improved fishery. Due to the depth of water, under 16's must be accompanied by an adult. Day tickets available from South Lakeland Angling Centre, Kendal, Angling & Hiking Barrow in Furness
